The OC of Barabani police station, Dibyendu Mukherjee and BLLRO of Barabani block, Subhadip Mitra were present during the demolition drive.

Shiladitya Bhattacharya, BDO of Barabani block in West Burdwan district said that setting up of such illegal structures upon the river can not be tolerated. These structures force the river to change its direction, which leads to problems during the monsoon season.

Such illegal encroachments on the Ajay river elsewhere in the Barabani block will also be demolished, the BDO said.

Local people said that it will take too much time to pass through the other bridge on the river which connects the both districts.
